North Shore Bank Joins with Mayor Barrett and Local Schoolchildren to Open New Branch Focused on Technology and Financial Education

Bank, which has served Jackson Park neighborhood since 1925, debuts brand new branch office, including bilingual services and special children’s area designed with Betty Brinn Children’s Museum

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – North Shore Bank today joined with Mayor Tom Barrett, Ald. Mark Borkowski and local schoolchildren to formally open a new, full-service bank office focused on the latest banking technology, financial education and community empowerment. The newly built branch at 4230 W. Oklahoma Ave. replaces the bank’s previous Jackson Park office, and offers bilingual services, a community gathering space and financial literacy programs for all ages to address the area’s evolving needs.

“At North Shore Bank, we are always working to provide the best experience and the most convenient banking options for the communities we serve,” said Jay McKenna, the bank’s president and chief operating officer. “We have been honored to be part of the Jackson Park neighborhood since 1925. We’ve built strong relationships with neighbors, community groups and businesses in this area, and we’re excited to offer everyone additional conveniences, expanded services and important new programs in a larger, full-service building.”

As part of the celebration, first-graders from St. Anthony School helped McKenna and other dignitaries cut a ribbon of money to open a special children’s learning area – designed in partnership with Betty Brinn Children’s Museum – with games and activities focused on early financial education. The ribbon was then donated to the school, and each student also received a North Shore Bank piggy bank and a voucher to receive $25 in a new savings account.

“Financial literacy is one of the most critical skills for all ages, and the earlier we can begin preparing our Milwaukee youth, the better prepared they will be to make decisions and navigate an increasingly complex financial marketplace,” Barrett said. “North Shore Bank is clearly leading an important mission in this vibrant Milwaukee neighborhood. It’s exciting to be here today and to watch the students from St. Anthony School take an active role learning about finances.”

The branch also has a community meeting room for Jackson Park area businesses, civic groups and organizations to use, with a separate entrance so it can be accessed after bank hours and on weekends. The bank plans to also use the room for additional seminars on business startups, safety and security, saving for the future, navigating the first-time home buying process and more. The office features an open-concept lobby and more technology, including video teller banking, self-serve coin counter, interactive kiosk technology, video conferencing capabilities and more.

“Milwaukee is a city of neighborhoods, and each one is different,” Borkowski said. “Jackson Park is an emerging Hispanic community and its needs are unique from other areas of the city. In particular, this area is a hub for businesses and having North Shore Bank provide a community-focused space is great for collaboration, learning and sharing information, all of which will continue to grow this neighborhood.”

The branch is fully staffed with a concierge, bankers, a dedicated in-house lender and a branch manager on hand to help customers with their banking transactions. All staff speak both Spanish and English. The new technology and enhanced branch designs will allow customers more flexible options, including extended banking hours.
