Growth of El Rey Food Mart Leads to North Shore Bank Constructing New Branch Across Street

New North Shore Bank branch to continue to serve El Rey neighborhood’s needs; In-store bank branch that opened inside El Rey in 2004 was a first in Metro Milwaukee
BROOKFIELD, Wis. – North Shore Bank announced today its branch located inside the El Rey Food Mart at 1320 W. Burnham St. will be moving across the street into newly constructed branch space as longtime partner El Rey seeks demand for space to accommodate its growth. The community bank’s relocated branch will be directly across the street at 1316 W. Forest Home Ave. and is expected to open in spring of 2023.

“Nearly 20 years ago, we opened this location as the first bank branch inside a multicultural supermarket in the region. It’s bittersweet to be leaving the space inside the store, but we’re glad that El Rey Food Mart now will have the space needed to grow and so will we, just directly across the street at our new location,” said Alfredo Martin, vice president and community engagement manager for North Shore Bank. “The community surrounding this branch is extremely important to us and by continuing to invest in the neighborhood by growing into a new space, we’ll be able to provide even more people accessible banking services.”

The new branch will feature three private offices, expanded lobby space, bilingual staff (Spanish), a self-service coin counter, and teller services. North Shore Bank is working directly with customers to assist with the transition and Alfredo Martin, branch and community engagement manager of the El Rey store branch, will continue as manager of the new branch. In addition to the relocated branch, neighborhood customers also can visit the nearby Jackson Park location at 4230 W Oklahoma Ave.

“Partnering with North Shore Bank for the last nearly 20 years has been amazing and has served our community so well,” said El Rey owner Ernesto Villarreal. “Alfredo and the branch staff have paved the way to home ownership, wise saving and investments and more for so many of our neighbors and customers by being right here inside the store, but we are so happy they found space right across the street to also grow and even expand those offerings to our community.”
