North Shore Bank to Host EMV Chip Card Workshop for Local Businesses

Event will educate local business owners about new credit card technology

BROOKFIELD, Wis. – North Shore Bank today announced it will host an EMV Chip Card Workshop for local business owners at its Northland branch (1100 W. Northland Ave.) in Appleton on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 8 a.m.

The free workshop is open to the public and will feature a presentation by Randy Rathburn, an expert from Elavon, North Shore Bank’s payment processor partner. Rathburn will explain what EMV chip cards are and how they reduce fraud risk, and will provide tips on how to protect your business from data breaches and how to educate employees and customers about the new technology. A light breakfast will be served.

EMV chip technology embeds microprocessor chips in credit and debit cards to help increase security and reduce credit card fraud. EMV chip cards have been used in Europe for a number of years and they are becoming the global standard for credit and debit card payments; in fact, retailers or businesses who do not have the chip technology may soon be held financially liable for data breaches.

“At North Shore Bank we strive to be an asset to the communities we serve,” said Heather Starr, branch manager for North Shore Bank. “We understand that this new technology is confusing for some business owners and hope that this free workshop will help prepare businesses in our community for the EMV chip card transition.”

To attend the seminar, guests must RSVP by Aug. 21 by calling 920-749-7240.
