Debit Card & ATM Safety Tips
Enter Your PIN Instead of Signing
Opt to use your PIN when performing transactions. When the PIN verification on the chip is used, a unique transaction number is created which adds an extra layer of security.
Keep Your PIN a Secret
Memorize your PIN, and never write it on your card or store it with your card. Do not let anyone else enter your PIN for you. No company or person should ever ask for your PIN, not even North Shore Bank.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Before you use an ATM, take a look around. If anyone or anything seems suspicious, leave the area immediately.
Update Digital Wallets
To ensure that there is no distribution in making purchases with your mobile phone or online, update any digital wallets, with your new expiration date.
Be Smart Online
Be careful when shopping online. Look for secure transaction symbols, such as the little “lock” logo in the lower right-hand corner of your browser window and Web addresses that start with “https.”
Recurring Payments
If you have recurring payments set up using your debit card, such as an electric bill or phone bill, you will need to contact the business to update your expiration date.
