North Shore Bank Celebrates 100th Anniversary With Return of “Be Kind” Public Art Installation

Kindness messaging to debut in Pewaukee as Village declares “Be Kind Day”; North Shore Bank presents donation to Kiwanis Club of Pewaukee from bank’s give-back parking lot
Brookfield, Wis. – North Shore Bank, celebrating its centennial anniversary, today unveiled the return of its giant, kindness-themed art installation in Pewaukee. The occasion was also marked with a Proclamation by the Village of Pewaukee marking May 23, 2023 “Be Kind Day.”

Making its debut in front of the bank’s North End branch in downtown Milwaukee last year, the bank resurrected the “BE KIND” letters, placing the 7-ft x 4-ft artwork pieces at 120 Wisconsin Ave. in Pewaukee, adjacent to the local branch. North Shore Bank commissioned well-known Milwaukee artist Emma Daisy Gertel to paint each letter. The art installation will remain up for community engagement through August.

“While we aim to promote kindness no matter the year, during our centennial anniversary, it seems particularly significant to partner with the talented Emma Daisy Gertel to kickoff of summer with this art installation and spread positivity with today’s Be Kind Day,” said Jay McKenna, president and CEO of North Shore Bank.

During the unveiling, North Shore Bank also presented the Kiwanis Club of Pewaukee with a check for $1,097 as part of the community bank’s give-back metered parking system that was installed last summer at the Pewaukee branch. Beginning in June 2022, the North Shore Bank Pewaukee parking lot transitioned from a privately-owned parking lot to the community-give-back parking system, with the goal of drawing visitors to downtown Pewaukee with accessible parking, while returning proceeds right back to the local community. The Kiwanis Club of Pewaukee was selected randomly by the bank to receive the funds.

The 2023 Be Kind initiative is an extension of North Shore Bank’s Bank on Kindness® commitment that began in 2020. The Bank on Kindness initiative finds meaningful, fun, and special ways to carry out acts of kindness from the bank.
