North Shore Bank Holds 14th Annual Worn Flag Collection to Benefit Old Glory Honor Flight

Flags to be honorably retired during annual Veterans Day flag retirement ceremony

BROOKFIELD, Wis. – North Shore Bank today announced it will collect worn and tattered American flags from Oct. 5 to Oct. 23 and will work with the local American Legion and Boy Scouts troops to respectfully dispose of the flags during a special Veterans Day flag retirement ceremony in November.

The bank will also donate $1 per flag (up to $1,000) to Old Glory Honor Flight, which flies local WWII, Korean War and terminally ill veterans from other conflicts to Washington D.C. to visit their respective memorials. The bank is also accepting public contributions to help send Wisconsin veterans to Washington D.C. The funds will be presented during the bank’s Appleton flag retirement ceremony in November.

“The American flag is a symbol of our country’s strength, unity and patriotism, and we are honored to offer this flag collection and respectful retirement again,” said Sue Doyle, senior vice president of branch administration. “We invite everyone in our community to drop off worn and tattered flags and help send our brave Wisconsin veterans to Washington D.C.”

This is the 14th year North Shore Bank has held the collection, which has helped retire thousands of worn flags since it began in 2001. Damaged and worn flags will be collected at all North Shore Bank locations throughout Wisconsin, including:
