
How to show respect and display our American flag.
When to display the flag:
- All days when the weather permits especially on legal holidays.
- From sunrise to sunset or at night when it is illuminated.
How to fly the flag:
- Always unfold the flag and then raise it; never raise the flag when folded.
- Raise quickly to the top of the pole and lower slowly and ceremoniously.
- Keep the flag from touching anything beneath it such as the ground or floor.
- When flown at half-staff, the flag should be first raised to the top of the pole and then lowered to half-staff.
- When flown with other flags, it should be in the center or at the highest point in the group.
How to salute the flag:
- Those in uniform should use a military salute.
- All those with hats should remove and hold their hat at the left shoulder with the right hand being over the heart.
- Those without hats should place their right hand over their heart.
When to salute the flag:
- When it passes by in a parade.
- At the ceremonial raising or lowering of the flag.
- During the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.
