How to show respect and display our American flag.

When to display the flag:

• All days when the weather permits especially on legal holidays.
• From sunrise to sunset or at night when it is illuminated.

How to fly the flag:

• Always unfold the flag and then raise it; never raise the flag when folded.
• Raise quickly to the top of the pole and lower slowly and ceremoniously.
• Keep the flag from touching anything beneath it such as the ground or floor.
• When flown at half-staff, the flag should be first raised to the top of the pole and then lowered to half-staff.
• When flown with other flags, it should be in the center or at the highest point in the group.

How to salute the flag:

• Those in uniform should use a military salute.
• All those with hats should remove and hold their hat at the left shoulder with the right hand being over the heart.
• Those without hats should place their right hand over their heart.

When to salute the flag:

• When it passes by in a parade.
• At the ceremonial raising or lowering of the flag.
• During the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.
