North Shore Bank Collects Hundreds of Worn Flags to be Retired in Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 8

Public invited to observe as Veterans and Scouts perform traditional flag-retirement ceremony

GREEN BAY, Wis. – North Shore Bank today announced that hundreds of worn and tattered flags gathered through the bank’s tenth annual flag collection program will be honorably retired in a ceremony at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. This free ceremony is open to the public and will be held at American Legion Post #11, 1822 Sal Street in Green Bay.

Boy Scouts from MacArthur School Troop 1095 will prepare the flags and present them for retirement. Veterans with Post #11 will then conduct the solemn flag-burning ceremony, in accordance with American Legion tradition.

“A traditional flag retirement ceremony is a moving event that everyone should experience – it’s one way that we can show respect for our flag and remember all the men and women that have fought to protect it,” said Mickey Adams, assistant vice president-branch manager for North Shore Bank.

“The Exchange Clubs’ goal is to help educate the general public about the proper way to dispose of a torn or soiled American flag,” said John Schuster, president of the Green Bay Exchange Club. “Working in conjunction with North Shore Bank for our worn flag drive was a great success again this year. We are proud to know that there are so many people in our community that want to retire their flags properly.”
