The Race is on! Contestants Sought to 'Race For the Hungry' in Sussex
Sussex North Shore Bank branch and Piggly Wiggly store gearing up for race to benefit local food pantry
SUSSEX – North Shore Bank (www.northshorebank.com) today announced that the public is invited to enter for a chance to “Race for the Hungry,” a fun way to help support the Sussex-area Outreach Services’ (SOS) food pantry’s youth summer lunch program and win free groceries.
From now until June 20, 2010 people can enter to be a contestant at the North Shore Bank branch at W249 N6600 Highway 164 or the Piggly Wiggly store at N63 W23735 Main St in Sussex. The winner will receive a $100 grocery gift card and the runner-up, a $50 card.
The “Race for the Hungry” will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Piggly Wiggly in Sussex. All items collected during the race will feed local families.
“This is a great way for the community to have some fun, cheer on their favorite contestant and help out SOS at the same time,” said Candy Walecki, Sussex branch manager. “North Shore Bank is proud to be a part of this great event, and we encourage everyone to enter for a chance to race their cart down the Piggly Wiggly aisles and give to a great cause.”
Both locations will also accept donations of non-perishable food items throughout June. Items needed include:
- Pop top cans of Ravioli’s and Spaghettio’s
- Juice boxes and fruit snacks
- Individual packages of crackers
- Fruit and applesauce cups
- Dried fruit or raisins
- Jell-O or pudding cups
- Granola bars and Pop Tarts
- Single serving size boxes of cereal
- Microwavable single serving of Mac N Cheese
- Mini bags of chips or pretzels
- Vienna sausages and beef jerky
- Tuna or chicken kits
- Breakfast bars and oatmeal packages
- Bottled water and Kool-Aid packets
- Nuts or trail mix any kind
- Pop top cans of beanie weenies
- Small or large bottles of Gatorade
- Small pouches of goldfish, nips, cheese it snacks
