Hundreds of Worn Flags Collected at North Shore Bank to be Retired in Solemn, Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 10

Public invited to observe as veterans, Scouts to perform traditional flag-retirement ceremony

GREEN BAY, Wis. – North Shore Bank today announced that hundreds of worn and tattered flags gathered through the bank’s annual flag collection program will be honorably retired in a ceremony at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the American Legion Post #11 in Green Bay. The post is at 1822 Sal Street and the ceremony is free and open to the public.

Boy Scouts from MacArthur School Troop 1095 will prepare the flags and present them for retirement. Veterans with Post #11 will then conduct the solemn flag-burning ceremony, in accordance with American Legion tradition.

"The traditional flag retirement ceremony is a moving and meaningful event, and we invite everyone to join us and show their respect for the flag and the men and women who have served our country," said Steve Arps, vice president of branch administration for North Shore Bank.

"The Exchange Clubs’ goal is to help educate the general public about the proper way to dispose of a torn or soiled American flag," said Mike Berg, president of the Green Bay Exchange Club. "Our worn flag drive was conducted in conjunction with North Shore Bank and was very successful. We are pleased to know that so many people respect the flag and want to appropriately dispose of their damaged flags."
