North Shore Bank Named Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce Of Wisconsin's 2004 Corporation Of The Year

Bank honored for commitment to the Latino community

BROOKFIELD, Wis. - North Shore Bank today announced that it has been named 2004 Corporation of the Year by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin (HCCW). The honor celebrates the bank's commitment to serving the state's Latino community, including becoming the first Wisconsin-based bank to accept the matricula consular ID card and the first to open a full-service banking branch in a Mexican supermarket.

"North Shore Bank has dared to step out of Milwaukee's traditional banking comfort zone to provide unique services, offer creative solutions toward home ownership for immigrants and demonstrate its unwavering support toward development and progress of the state's Latino population," said Maria Monreal-Cameron, president and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin. "HCCW salutes North Shore Bank for its prominent and active involvement in our community's upward mobility."

Monreal-Cameron said North Shore Bank's recognition was based on a variety of factors, including:
Becoming the first lender based in Wisconsin to accept the matricula consular ID card issued by the Mexican government as a valid form of ID for opening checking and savings accounts. The bank has also worked with the Mexican Consulate to sponsor a number of matricula consular drives to make it easier for Mexican citizens living in Wisconsin to obtain the cards.
Opening a full-service bank branch at El Rey Nana's Market Mexican Grocery Store, the first full-service bank branch in an ethnic supermarket in Wisconsin.
Making genuine efforts to make home ownership a reality for immigrants, including Spanish-language homebuyer seminars and special mortgage products.
Conducting vigorous outreach efforts to provide financial services at competitive and, at times, lower costs to a growing Hispanic community.
Demonstrating solid commitment and firm belief in community strengths, as well as numerous years of corporate philanthropy and charitable leadership.
The award was presented at the HCCW's annual gala on Saturday, January 22.

"We are honored to accept this recognition from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin. North Shore Bank has always worked hard to provide services to the communities we serve, and reaching out to the Latino community is an important focus for us," said James F. McKenna, the bank's president and CEO. "The U.S. Census Bureau reports that Hispanics are the largest single ethnic minority in the United States, yet according to a recent nationwide survey, one-third of the nation's Latino households have no bank account. Our goal is to help this important segment of our population become more familiar with the U.S. banking system, purchase homes and achieve the financial goals they've set for themselves and their families."

North Shore Bank, headquartered in Brookfield, was founded in 1923. It has assets of $1.8 billion, and 41 branches throughout eastern Wisconsin. In addition to branches in 18 metro Milwaukee, current branches are located in Pewaukee, Racine, Union Grove, Kenosha, Burlington, Green Bay, Appleton, Menasha, Howard, Pulaski, De Pere, Algoma, Two Rivers and Door County.
