North Shore Bank Gears Up For Matricula Users By Planning Extended Hours For Jackson Park BranchBranch to be open until 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, and until 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, to assist Mexican immigrants opening Matricula checking and savings accountsEn Español BROOKFIELD, Wis. - North Shore Bank today announced that its Jackson Park branch will offer extended hours Feb. 3 and 8 to accommodate individuals opening checking and savings accounts using matricula consular ID cards issued by the Mexican government. The branch, at 4230 W. Oklahoma Ave., will be open until 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3., and until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, for customers who want to establish the special accounts. Spanish-speaking bank staff will be on hand to assist. Appointments are appreciated and can be made by calling (414) 329-4622 or (414) 327-2000. In addition, the bank will offer three free certification seminars to familiarize Matricula customers with accounts and banking procedures. Seminars will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3., from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 8. To open a Matricula account, customers will need a valid consular ID, an additional photo ID and an Individual Tax ID number issued by the IRS. The bank is expecting a large number of Matricula customers in the coming weeks because many people applied for the Individual Tax ID numbers when they registered for the consular IDs during a drive at the United Community Center in late October. Although the ID cards were issued right away, it takes several weeks to obtain the IRS tax ID number, and approved applicants have begun to receive them in the mail. The bank can also assist prospective customers in obtaining the IRS tax ID numbers. "We had more than 2,000 people apply for tax ID numbers during the UCC drive, and we know that many of those individuals plan to open accounts at North Shore Bank," said Don Cohen, vice-president-community-lending. "The goal of our Matricula program is to reach out to the local Mexican population, make them more comfortable and help them achieve the benefits of quality banking relationships. We want to do everything we can to make this an easy process, and extending our hours at the Jackson Park branch is just one more way we can do that." Matricula accounts can also be opened during regular hours at any North Shore Bank branch, Cohen said. The Jackson Park, Forest Home, Milwaukee Capitol and East branches all have Spanish-speaking personnel. North Shore Bank, headquartered in Brookfield, was founded in 1923. It has assets of $1.5 billion and 39 branches throughout eastern Wisconsin. Current branch locations are in metro Milwaukee, Pewaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Burlington, metro Green Bay, Appleton, Menasha, Algoma, Two Rivers and Door County. In September, the bank announced it would become the first Wisconsin-based bank to accept the matricula consular ID as identification to open accounts..
