North Shore Bank to Sponsor Matricula Consular Identification Card Registration Drive in Milwaukee

Mexican citizens can register for cards at Mexican Fiesta office on April 25-26

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - North Shore Bank today announced it will sponsor a matricula consular identification card registration drive from 10:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, and from 9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. on Saturday, April 26. In September, North Shore Bank announced it would become the first Wisconsin-based bank to accept the cards - issued by the Mexican government to Mexican citizens living in the United States - to open savings and checking accounts.

Officials from the bank and the Chicago office of the Consul General of Mexico will be on hand to aid in issuing the ID cards. For those interested in obtaining a matricula consular ID, there is a $29 fee. Applicants must provide a Mexican birth certificate, one other official Mexican ID and proof of local residence, such as a utility bill. The card, which is digitized, features a legal address, birthplace, signature and a photo that will be taken on site.

"North Shore Bank is pleased to participate in this effort to serve the Milwaukee area's Hispanic population," said Alfredo Martin, manager of the bank's Jackson Park office. "Our goal is to reach out to this important segment of our population, make them more comfortable and help them achieve the benefits of quality banking relationships. As the first Wisconsin-based bank to accept these IDs, North Shore Bank will continue to help our customers build for the future.".

North Shore Bank will offer those who obtain the IDs free training to provide the skills needed to successfully manage accounts. Matricula training seminars are scheduled throughout the winter.

Additional matricula consular ID registration drives will be scheduled quarterly.

North Shore Bank, headquartered in Brookfield, was founded in 1923. It has assets of $1.5 billion and 38 branches throughout eastern Wisconsin. Current branch locations are in metro Milwaukee, Pewaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Burlington, metro Green Bay, Appleton, Menasha, Algoma, Two Rivers and Door County.
